Mist Me ("we", "our", "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Data We Collect
- Account information — When you sign in with Apple, we receive your Apple user identifier and, if you choose to share it, your email address and name.
- Display name — A name you choose, visible to your household members.
- Plant data — Plant names, species, watering schedules, care instructions, and watering history you create within the app.
- Plant photos — Photos you upload are stored on our server to display in your household. Photos used for on-device identification never leave your phone.
- Household membership — Which households you belong to and your role (owner or member).
2. How We Use Your Data
All data is used solely for app functionality:
- Displaying your plants and watering schedules
- Sharing plant data with your household members
- Sending local watering reminder notifications (on-device, not server-pushed)
- Identifying plants via the on-device AI model or, when you choose, the Pl@ntNet online service
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers or data brokers. We do not use your data for tracking or profiling.
3. Third-Party Services
- Apple Sign In — Authentication is handled by Apple. We receive only the identifiers Apple provides.
- Pl@ntNet API — If you use online plant identification, the plant photo is sent to Pl@ntNet (plantnet.org) for species identification. See their privacy policy.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored in a CockroachDB database. Communication between the app and server uses HTTPS encryption. Authentication uses JSON Web Tokens (JWT) stored securely in the iOS Keychain.
5. Data Sharing Within Households
When you join a household, other members can see:
- Your display name
- Plants you added and their photos
- Your watering activity (which plants you watered and when)
You can leave a household at any time to stop sharing this information.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
You can delete your account at any time from the Profile screen in the app. When you delete your account:
- Your user profile is permanently deleted
- You are removed from all households
- If you are the sole member of a household, the household and all its plants are deleted
- If other members remain, ownership is transferred and your plants and watering history are preserved for the household
7. Children's Privacy
Mist Me is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by updating the date at the top of this page.
